Individuals and households account for 40% of greenhouse gas emissions - more than heavy industry.
Our impact on global warming arises primarily from our use of energy to heat our homes, power household appliances, car use and flying abroad on holiday. On average, households in the UK each emit around 10.2 TCO2e per year and the footprint for an individual is around 4.5 TCO2e though there is a wide variation depending on life-style.
