Offsetting

Offset Ethically with CarbonAided

Putting the D into CDM
Acquiring Carbon Finance for Development Projects
A workshop in London on 15th June 2009 for those thinking about participating in carbon projects with social benefits to help understand them better.
The use of offsets – verified units of GHG savings created by green projects – assists many companies to neutralise emission sources that cannot be reduced, for example, staff travel.

Most companies and charities find that their scope for directly reducing and avoiding emissions is limited. Typically most organisations are able to reduce emissions by up to 50% below starting levels and thereafter further abatement becomes technically impossible or too expensive. In such instances the use of robust carbon offsets to "outsource" the creation of additional emission reductions becomes a viable option. Offsetting must, however, be carried out responsibly.

CarbonAided provides advice to companies on how to use offsets within their overall climate change strategy and also develops independently accredited Gold Standard, Clean Development Mechanism and Voluntary Carbon Standard offset projects. Please see the Projects section for information about our green projects.
